In the June 5th issue of Hotel & Motel Management, there is an article on the Asian American Hotel Owners Association conference and trade show. In discussion regarding hotel amenties, attendees were polled using hand-held devices.
From the article, 43 percent of the respondents said they have to have amenities added to compete; the other 57 percent said amenities added recently haven’t helped their hotels or increased occupancy.
Reiterating from one of our previous articles, Hotel Digital Signage & the Amenity War, adding the best and most amenities is not the key to winning the amenity war. In the hospitality market right now, owners must have certain amenities as consumers are demanding products that more closely resemble their homes. The addition of certain amenities is absolutely necessary for hotels to remain competitive, but in today’s market, they generally will NOT give a hotel a competitive advantage. Hotel owners should not expect recently added amenities to magically boost occupancy.
