Good news for New Orleans’ Hospitality Industry: The Monday Night Football game between the Saints and the Falcons during the re-opening of the Louisiana Superdome brought in the largest audience in ESPN history, had the largest audience of the night of any show, pumped in about $20 million into the local economy, and served as a harbinger of a robust and reinvigorated hospitality industry.
The hospitality industry in New Orleans accounts for approximately one-third of the city’s operating budget with $210 million supporting police, EMS, infrastructure, sanitation, and education and provides 85,000 jobs. The convention calendar is full, cruise ships are returning, hotels are re-opening soon or undergoing extensive renovation (Ritz Carlton and Hyatt), and three major sporting events and a 30,000 person convention are planned.
