InterContinental plans on shooting two to three minute guides for each of the 140 InterContinentals. These short videos can be viewed online or downloaded to a video ipod. Yet, InterContinental can get more mileage AND benefit out of unique content such as this by implementing a digital signage network.
Hooked up to a media player connected to the in-room network, IC could deliver these videos along with other local content to each guest. A few networked screens in the common areas could entertain and create a unique conversation as well, sparking interest and directing guests to the concierge for additional information. A new source of revenue could be obtained as well by selling additional time on the network to the concierge’s recommended establishments.
Like the video podcasts being offered by the luxury hotel chain Jumeirah, these short concierge videos show how hotel companies are rethinking how they reach today’s guests, create additonal value, and promote the hotel both individually and as a chain. While podcasts and online videos are a great way to reach the consumer, what better place is there than at the property itself? A digital signage network can help hotels reach their guests at the point of contact and provide a compelling new medium. Read about the many digital signage benefits here.
